This is my Dad. He is waiting for a life-saving liver transplant. This blog is dedicated to telling his story and sharing information about liver transplants.

My Dad has a liver disease called Primary Sclersing Cholangitis (PSC). Because of his particular kind of liver disease, my Dad’s best option is to have a live-donor liver transplant. My Dad is also listed on the deceased donor  waiting list. This option is a gamble for my Dad, because PSC patients’ MELD scores don’t rise the way other liver disease patients’ do. A high MELD score is one of the primary indicators that you are sick enough to receive a liver from the deceased donor waiting list. Another option for my Dad is to receive a liver from a designated recipient. This option is full of lots of emotional ups and downs, some of which we have already experienced.

To read more about my Dad’s condition please visit these pages: History, Scroll Article, and Dr. Dickson Notes.

Currently, there are thousands of people on the organ donor waiting lists. However, there is a major shortage of organs for the people on these lists. About 20 people die a day waiting for a life-saving organ transplant. Sadly, if those who could donate, would donate, there would be no shortage at all. To learn more about becoming an organ donor and sign up to be an organ donor please visit http://www.yesidaho.org/ or www.donatelife.net. One donor can save up to 9 lives and improve the quality of life for up to 50 more.
