Our family is truly learning what it means to “mourn with those who mourn” through this option. People who become organ donors usually die of a head injury in an accident. Many times the person is in a car accident and are then declared brain dead. The family of a person who dies this way has the option of designating a particular person they would like the live-saving organ donations to go to.
As more people have become aware of my Dad’s need for a liver transplant, they have begun to inform us of people and families whose loved ones are in accidents. Our hearts have broken over and over again with these families who are hurting. We mourn with them in a way that is hard to explain. By being informed of these tragedies we have been able to mourn with others, raise organ and tissue donation awareness, and provide a way for families to find some kind of comfort at a time of pain.
